Who are the children waiting for adoption?

There are many children waiting for adoption in the Adoption South East Region. They range from babies and toddlers through to primary school age children. The children include sibling groups, children from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, children with dual heritage, and children with a range of additional needs.

Our children have all experienced the loss of living with their birth family and what they all share is their need to be part of a permanent and secure family home. Adoption can give the child the opportunity to thrive in a stable and loving environment and, with your support, a chance for recovery from these early challenges and the best opportunity to reach their potential.

Children are adopted for a number of reasons. Sometimes, but rarely, birth parents request that their child is placed for adoption. Occasionally, children are abandoned or their birth parents suffer from an illness that prevents them from parenting. In the majority of cases however, social workers have been concerned about the wellbeing of the child and the courts have decided that the birth parents have caused harm to their children and that they do not have the capacity to care for their children safely.

Understandably these children have some additional challenges as a result of their experiences, and at Adoption South East we believe in supporting you throughout the adoption process and beyond. Please see our Post Adoption Support page to find out more about the great support Adoption South East provides for our adoptive families.
